Embryo transfer is the part of the process In-Vitro-Fertilization (IVF). It is the final step in the IVF procedure.
The process of embryo transfer is a short procedure, which usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. An embryo (day 3) or more mature embryo known as Blastocyst (day 5) is placed inside the uterus.
This placement of embryo is done by long, thin, flexible tube called as - Embryo Transfer Catheter.
Blastocyst hatches from its shell. Then it gets attached to the wall of uterus. It's cells divide and keep on multiplying further.
Implantation begins during this stage. The Blastocyst moves deeper into the uterus lining and gets attached.
Implantation is complete during this stage. The embryo will connect to the endometrium and endometrial blood vessels develops to provide blood supply to the embryo. Cells keep on multiplying that will become placenta and foetus.
Body starts producing the hormone HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin). This hormone signals the body that pregnancy happened.
Pregnancy advances and cells continue to develop exponentially. This whole activity is promoted by hormone HCG.
Day 9 is the earliest day when the serum test detects HCG hormone in the bloodstream.
Once the embryo transfer is complete, it takes around 9 to 14 days to detect pregnancy. The two-week wait period is recommended after transfer to confirm pregnancy.
